Ms. Sonia Essobmadje

Chief Innovative Finance, and Capital Markets Section, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa - ECA, and Adviser, Africa Capital Markets Forum

Sonia Essobmadje leads the Finance and Domestic Resource Mobilization Section in the Macroeconomic Policy and Governance Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.


She has over 17 years’ combined experience in financial markets, sustainable finance, business support advisory services and structured finance. In her role as chief of section, she supports the deepening the financing architecture and the development of capital markets to increase savings and investments pools and mobilize more capital. Key work programs include risk management, alternative investments and sustainable development of capital markets.


Prior to this position, she was an investment banker for nearly 15 years. Through her various positions, she has acquired an in-depth knowledge of financing solutions and capital markets. Her expertise also extends to sustainable and impact finance. She contributed to the development of a green and sustainable offer for the bank Societe Generale.
